Christian G. Hernandez-Negron

Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering, Analytics and Engineering Management

Welcome!

Hello there!, thank you for visiting my website.

I am an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering, Analytics and Engineering Management at California State University - East Bay (CSUEB), School of Engineering.

I am interested in the science of decision-making, which relates to many professions and applicable to various domains. Each of us has a unique problem-solving style and problem solving is a blend of qualitative and quantitative techniques. I like to delve into mathematical models and apply decision-science methods to ask and answer exciting energy, environmental, and sustainability questions.

I am a passionate academic and believer that education is indeed the key to unlocking the world, serving as a passport to freedom and opportunity. It is essential for achieving social and economic goals, as it empowers individuals to reach their full potential and contributes to a healthier, more equitable society.

“Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom”, - George Washington Carver

Summary about me and research interest:

I did my PhD in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst), working under the Distinguished Professor Dr. Erin Baker at the Energy, Environment & Economic Decision Making | Baker’s Research Group . During this time, I was also honored to receive a Distinguished Teaching Award nomination.

Prior to joining UMass Amherst, I earned a master’s degree MEng in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences and hold a dual bachelor’s degree in BSc in Civil Engineering, and BSc in Land Surveying and Topography from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.

On the research side, I focus my research on analyzing energy system models, technology forecasting, innovation, and technological change (water and energy), decision-making under uncertainty, and understanding strategies for accelerating the sustainable (water and energy) transition.

Broader interests include applied decision science, business analytics, statistical modeling, econometrics, transportation science and logistics, public policy analysis, climate change, sustainability, and interests and experience with household surveys or interviews.

I love the outdoors, so if you cannot find me in my office or in a classroom, most likely I’m on a hike, running, or rowing.
